Education
Following high school, I enrolled at a local Bible college. During my first semester, I found myself disillusioned as there was little to no practical application. We would spend multiple classes studying prayer without ever actually praying. Student life revolved almost exclusively around the college, rather than being meaningfully engaged in local church life. My frustration increased to the point where I could not continue. I felt I would learn and grow faster by serving in a local church and learning on the job. I began looking at full-time ministry listings and against all odds, received multiple offers, leading to my first position at a church in Central Texas.
As my ministry career has unfolded, I have gained a wealth of experience through serving churches in various locations and of different sizes. I have been a youth pastor, worship pastor, associate pastor, missionary church planter, lead pastor, and teaching pastor. I have worked in nearly every area of church administration and too many other areas of ministry to mention. I have gained significant knowledge through mentoring, training, and books recommended to me by pastors - men who were in the trenches. I was schooled in expositional preaching at Calvary Church, and I've been teaching through books of the Bible verse by verse for the past 12 years. I’m an avid reader who has consumed many books on various subjects related to pastoring. I believe my first book, “Hail the King: A Verse by Verse Journey Through the Book of Revelation” (800+ pages and 500+ footnotes), testifies to the level of biblical, academic, and ministry knowledge I've acquired over the years.
In summary, I do not have a Bachelor of Arts or Master of Divinity Degree, but I believe that through the experiences and knowledge I've acquired over the past 20+ years of ministry, the Lord has provided an even richer education for me.
